Closet Organization

Closets are a stressful area of the home. We enter them multiple times a day, grabbing clothes, shoes, purses, belts, robes (and the list continues), but then also placing those same items back in the closet. Which is the part that can throw us into chaos.  If all items are strewn about on the floor or shelves because we don’t have a system in place that assigns a home, our closets transform into chaotic spaces. The key to an organized closet is to first declutter, then create organizational systems, and finally maintain the systems.

Closet Organization Clients: Before & After

Brittany – Spring Branch

For Brittany and her husband, they recently moved into a house with a spacious closet but continued to use the plastic tiered bins from their previous small closet. In addition, the space started to be used for the items that needed to go into the attic. We went through all clothes, shoes, and decorations, donated a few bags, and organized the rest. All holiday decorations went up high, and she requested labels on the outside of drawers. We placed the attic items into a bin with a label and her husband took them up. Check out all the space left to expand!

Jamie & Todd – University Area

For Jamie & Todd, they were overwhelmed by the overflowing drawers and clothes on the ground. It was an easy task to donate a few bags of clothes (mostly from what was stuffed in the drawers and never accessed) and then rearrange the remaining items.

Russ – Montrose

Russ has such a large space, it was easy to place items in the closet, then never think of them again. We donated all the books that were on the floor, donated 10 suits, moved the remaining suits to the back of the closet, and moved the suitcases high on a shelf. In addition, he bought a three-separator laundry basket (whites, darks, dry-clean) and a holder for dry-cleaning hangers (to prevent throwing items on the floor and then eventually overlooking them).

Charlotte – The Heights

A quick 4-hour transformation of her side of the closet (plus we did her dresser). The rods were so packed, we found multiple pieces that she hadn’t seen in a while. We hung all long-sleeved shirts on the top bar, short-sleeved and pants on bottom, and dresses on the long hang bar. We pulled all the clothes from her corner shelves, donated what no longer fit, and refolded the remaining. Now she can see everything and easily access her workout attire, jeans, shorts, or most common shoes. Lastly, we put all her seasonal boots on the top shelf. At the end of the session, she donated 4 bags of clothes and is sending 4 more to TheRealReal. But the best part? She can walk into her closet and easily find exactly what she needs!

Susan – River Oaks

For Susan and her shoes, the client was overwhelmed by her new closet. I removed all the shoes, placing similar ones near each other, which allowed her to donate two garbage bags full of shoes. Then I placed them back on the shelves in the order that she would use them the most.
